Title: Air plants and Bromilaids - Understanding plants that don't need soil.

Bromeliads and air plants may seem complicated, but are in fact easy to maintain and make great houseplants. Join Darin Wildenstein from Jordans Jungle for a presentation on these unique plants, where and how they grow, reproduction, care and some fun facts too!

Title: Spotted Lanternfly in NJ: Biology and Control
When: Friday 12pm

New Pest Alert! Spotted lanterfly has been found in New Jersey. SLF, an invasive plant hopper species could be very devastating to some NJ crops. Since its discovery in Pennsylvania 2014, SLF has been placed under state quarantine encompassing 13 Pennsylvania counties. Paul. J. Kurtzm, Entomologist, from New Jersey Department of Agriculture will explain the biology and the control of the SLF.

Join Mike Gannon for an informative talk on using water features in your garden and landscape. Mike is a professional water feature designer and host of the Koi Pond Water Garden Podcast, and Pond Hunter Youtube series. Mike's company, Full Service Aquatics, is based out of New Jersey and specializes in the design, installation, and servicing of koi ponds, water gardens, and water features of all types.

Ruth Carll, Senior Naturalist from Deep Cut Gardens, Monmouth County Parks, shares fantastic ideas and strategies for utilizing small spaces and adding plants that will thrive and liven your tiny yard. Even if you have a larger space, come hear about a wide array of colorful plants that will help bring color, shape and texture to your outdoor living area!

Hydrangeas rank among the easiest and most versatile of plants that gardeners can add to their home landscape.  The challenge (as with any group of plants) is how to properly select, care and prune them so that they reward both the gardener and the garden!  Join Bruce Crawford, Director of Rutgers Gardens and adjunct professor in Landscape Architecture Department at Rutgers University, to learn about some of the exciting Hydrangea varieties hardy to New Jersey, pruning techniques and how to combine them with other plants, ensuring multiple seasons of garden enjoyment.

Join Caroline Yourcheck, Rutgers Master Gardener, as she will teach you how the PowerGardening program will keep you fit, save you money and benefit your garden and the overall environment! Caroline will be raffling off a pair of “new and first of its kind ladies gardening pants”!!


Title: Yes, They Really Are Dried Flowers

For nearly 30 years, Cathy Miller’s exquisite dried flower arrangements filled the rooms of one of the most famous residences in the world – the White House.

Cathy had the distinction of serving as the White House’s dried floral arranger through five administrations, from Presidents Carter to Bush.   First Lady Nancy Regan once told Cathy, "Your creations bring special joy to all who are fortunate enough to see them.”

Since those days, Cathy has written several books, earned many awards and continues to present her arrangements at flower shows across the country.

We are especially pleased to have Cathy join us for her demo and presentation “Yes, They Really Are Dried Flowers.”  Cathy will show you how most of your garden flowers can be preserved to enjoy all year long.   Watch as she recreates a stunning replica of one of her 68 White House creations.   After, Cathy will be on hand to sign and sell copies of her award-winning book, "Harvesting, Preserving & Arranging Dried Flowers"

Title: Basics of Butterfly Gardening

Whether you are a butterfly enthusiast, a pollinator protector or someone who simply wants to enjoy seeing these winged beauties more often in your garden, this talk will share details on a butterfly’s lifecycle, plant selection and ideas on how to make our yards and gardens an oasis for butterflies and other creatures. Jane Hurwitz is the author of the recently published book Butterfly Gardening: The North American Butterfly Association Guide. She is also the editor of Butterfly Gardener magazine and former director of the Butterfly Garden and Habitat Program for the North American Butterfly Association. She has spent decades observing and writing about the interface of butterflies and gardens.
